October, 2004 - China Introduction |
||
My original thought was to join the photography tour organized by one of the Photography Work Shop in US, but was late in signing up and given the possibility "SAS" and "Chicken Flu" may flare up again in spring next year, I decided to join the introduction tour organized by one of the local company instead of waiting till next year. It was not bad except that we spend too much time "shopping" in the "Tourist Trap" (Fixed Tourist Point) in the morning and leaving too little time for sight seeing in the afternoon. It usually approaching sunset when we arrive the scenic spot. Apart from that, it was quite fun and all the fellow travelers were from Canada. Love to see that Canadian flag carried by the tour guide flying above the crow - Uoo.... Canadian Chinese! Arh, we all look the same but I do love the exchange rate from Canadian to Chinese dollar. It goes a long way! Food is generally cheap for because of Canadian dollar exchange rate. Although I always eat in the designated restaurant and seldom eat outside, I do love to look around. The cost of living is pretty low compare to Canada. As a foreign tourist, you got to be careful of what you eat and where you buy it from or make sure you have plenty of Imodium.. The game of Price Haggling is pretty much the norm of everyday life. I have been told that the general rule for counter offer is one quarter of the original price! Sometime it is frustrated because you never know what the "real" price should be. So, just buy what you need and do not compare to what other had paid, just pay what you think it worth, or walk away. Well, here is some of the images collected from the tour and warning for those who have weak stomach when looking at the slide taken from the sidewalk stand in Beijing - YUM! Enjoy, click away !
